In the spring of 2012, Tesla opened its first store in Beijing Parkview Green. At that time, the only product was the Model S that came out two years ago. Two years later, the Model S model was officially delivered to Chinese consumers, making pure electric vehicles a hot topic in the automotive industry.

Due to the current situation of fuel vehicles in China, Wan Gang, then Minister of Science and Technology, once analyzed: "It is basically unrealistic for Chinese automakers to surpass foreign manufacturers in the short term in terms of internal combustion engine technology." This produces. With the continuous increase of the Chinese government's subsidies for new energy vehicles and the implementation of the city number restriction policy. Pure electric vehicles have become the biggest "outlet" in the eyes of Wanqian Capital.

On June 1, 2010, with reference to the financial subsidies in the "Ten Cities and Thousand Vehicles Project", the Ministry of Finance promulgated the "Interim Measures for the Management of Financial Subsidy Funds for the Pilot Program of Private Purchase of New Energy Vehicles" for the first time, and selected Shanghai, Shenzhen, Hangzhou, Changchun and Five cities in Hefei were used as pilot cities, and Beijing was added later. For the first time, it is determined to subsidize private purchases of new energy vehicles (plug-in hybrid vehicles and pure electric vehicles), as well as infrastructure such as power batteries and charging stations. In September 2013, the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Science and Technology jointly issued a new energy vehicle promotion plan. Subsequently, local governments also introduced subsidy policies.

Suddenly, like a spring breeze overnight, more than 300 so-called "new energy car companies" have emerged in China. Many "three noes" companies with no products, no technical teams, and no production lines have joined this new track with a fancy PPT.

Li Xiang, Li Bin, and He Xiaopeng, who founded Autohome, Bitauto, and UC Browser respectively, have different backgrounds and life trajectories, but at the moment they are aiming at a common goal-new energy vehicles.

In November 2014, after Tesla opened up its technology patents, everyone once again felt that new energy vehicles would be the general trend, and they rushed to grab this wave of dividends. Jia Yueting registered the "Faraday" trademark in the United States this year.

Also in 2014, He Xiaopeng and two other co-founders co-founded Xiaopeng Motors; at the end of 2014, Li Bin founded Weilai; a little later in June 2015, after Li Xiang resigned as the president of Autohome, he founded ideal car.

In the big tide of that year, there were still dozens of names, but few of them survived until 2023 today...

At that time, Xiaopeng Motors was once the leader. On October 12, 2017, the first Xiaopeng Motors 1.0 rolled off the production line; in March 2018, Xiaopeng Motors got the first new energy license plate in "Wei Xiaoli".

However, Weilai Automobile, which is more "international", was the loudest and most concerned by the media at that time. Although it has not been mass-produced so far, the NIO EP9 electric supercar has been in the limelight since its release in 2016-first it broke the lap record in New North, and then successfully appeared on the BBC "Top Gear" program.

In other matters, NIO is also at the forefront. On June 28, 2018, NIO ES8 was officially delivered to users. More than two months later, on September 12, Weilai landed on the New York Stock Exchange, becoming the first new car manufacturer listed in the United States.

2018 has also become the "first year of delivery" for new forces. In October of that year, Ideal ONE was officially released, and mass production began on November 20. In December, the Xpeng Motors G3 was officially launched and delivered at the same time. New car-making forces have thus entered the real competitive track, which has accelerated the industrial transformation of China's new energy vehicles.

Until today in 2023, most new car-making forces have entered a dead end. Several new forces founded by bigwigs from traditional car companies, such as Shen Hui's Weimar, Fu Qiang's Aiways, Ding Lei's Gaohe, and Zhang Hailiang's Tianji are all struggling on the line of life and death. "Still alive and strong. On the other hand, the cross-border Xiaomi car is still conceived in Lei Jun's dream, and may change the pattern of China's auto market again in the future.

2020-2023: Has "curve overtaking" become a reality?

In fact, during the ten years when the "new forces" were making great strides, traditional independent brands did not sit idly by. But now the only one that really surpasses Tesla in sales volume is BYD, its own brand.

According to data from the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers, the sales volume of new energy vehicles in my country in 2012 was about 13,000. In 2022, this figure will reach 5.67 million, more than half of the global total delivery volume, an increase of more than 430 times, and the production and sales volume ranks first in the world for 8 consecutive years. No. 1 - Over the past ten years, China has cultivated the largest consumer group of new energy vehicles, which has injected strong impetus into the development of new energy vehicles around the world.

Looking back at 2009, new energy vehicles made their debut in a concentrated manner for the first time. At the Shanghai Auto Show that year, BYD F3DM, F6DM, e6, Geely EK-1, and Chery Ruiqi M1-EV participated in the exhibition. Although at that time China's new energy vehicles had attracted auto show audiences and practitioners at home and abroad to stop and watch, but at that time, this kind of crowd was still "crowd". At that time, new energy vehicles were not very practical, and they were still based on concepts. Compared with Toyota Prius, Nissan Leaf and Chevrolet Volt, which have mature technology and have gained wide reputation around the world, "curve overtaking" still seemed out of reach at the time.

"Curve overtaking" really showed success, it should be said that it started in 2020. This year, with the impact of the new crown epidemic, the existing pattern of the domestic auto market began to change. This year, BYD, which has adhered to the development of new energy vehicles for 20 years, released its blade battery technology, thus establishing BYD's position in the new energy market. The launch of DM-i and e platform 3.0, and the application of CTB technology have enabled BYD's new energy vehicles to gain market recognition, and both word-of-mouth and sales have ushered in a significant increase.

Today's new energy vehicles in our country are not big toys for a few people, but new industrial products with reliable quality, high cost performance, and outstanding intelligence. On the track of new energy vehicles, China's independent brands already have product capabilities that surpass those of traditional European and American manufacturers. China's new energy vehicles have achieved "curving overtaking" in terms of industrial chain and technology, demonstrating the hard power of China's auto industry in innovative research and development and basic manufacturing.

In the era of fuel vehicles, due to various reasons such as a later start, the Chinese auto market has become a big cake for auto brands from the United States, Japan, and Germany. However, with the outbreak of new energy vehicles, the development of China's new energy vehicles has reached the forefront of the world, and going overseas has become an inevitable trend. In 2022, BYD will go on sale in Japan, SAIC MG MULAN will enter European and American markets, the first Lantu space will open in Norway, and the delivery of Hongqi pure electric luxury SUV E-HS9 in Norway will exceed 1,000 units within half a year... It can be seen that with With the development of the domestic new energy vehicle market and Dongfeng's leading advantages in intelligence and electrification, domestic new energy vehicle brands are accelerating their overseas expansion.

Domestic car companies have many advantages in the development of new energy vehicles. The first is the domestic low-cost, high-efficiency production system. This advantage goes without saying. China's mature industrial manufacturing capacity is sufficient to ensure the efficient production of new energy vehicles and at the same time achieve sufficient cost advantages in the international market.

The second is the perfect supporting system. For example, in terms of the three electric systems, China has leading technical strength. Especially in the production of power batteries, there are power battery giants such as CATL and Fudi in China, as well as a complete industrial chain layout from raw materials to modules. With the development of the domestic new energy vehicle industry, supporting system enterprises will also become stronger, which will feed back domestic new energy vehicle brands and promote the positive development of the new energy vehicle industry. In the long run, China has the strength to become the core of the new energy vehicle industry chain.

Finally, there are the advantages of intelligence and networking. In the era of mobile Internet, domestic companies have surpassed the global Internet giants at some levels. In terms of intelligent networked vehicles, domestic car companies' pursuit of intelligence and networking has also reached the international leading level. Judging from the trend, with the further deepening of the intelligence and networking of new energy vehicles, the advantages of domestic car companies will also be further expanded.

In 2020, the number of China's new energy vehicle exports will be close to 70,000, accounting for 7.0% of total vehicle exports. By 2022, China will export 679,000 new energy vehicles, an increase of nearly 10 times compared to two years ago. The rapid development of China's new energy vehicles has made it the core growth point of China's auto exports, changing the passive situation in Asia, Africa and South America since the auto export market. In the markets of developed countries such as Europe, America and Japan, China's new energy vehicles have already gained a place.

Under the leadership of BYD, SAIC and other companies, great breakthroughs have been made in the overseas expansion of domestic new energy vehicles. With the further development of domestic new energy brands, it will also usher in a broader development space in overseas markets. In the future, "Chinese brands" are expected to become truly global brands, and China's auto industry will also write a more important chapter in the history of world auto development.
